We seek to establish a positive school climate for students, teachers, parents, and other school personnel. The primary task of schools is to provide appropriate learning experiences for students and the primary job of students is to be about the task of learning. When students do not use self-control, it becomes necessary to impose consequences for behavior interfering with the educational process. Disruptive behavior in the school will not be tolerated.

Each teacher will handle routine behaviors as they occur, developing procedures for the classroom that encourage self-correction. Students who fail to correct their behavior in the classroom will confer with the principal and the teacher.

To help assure each student receives this opportunity, all students must follow the learning community guidelines:

• Mutual respect
• Attentive listening
• Trustworthiness
• Appreciations/no put downs
• Personal best

Students are given at least three different opportunities in the classroom each day to correct any misbehavior on their part that is violating the guidelines. Teachers may provide specific interventions to assist and guide a student back to appropriate classroom behavior.

Other behavior which may result in a student being escorted to the principals' office may include, but are not limited to:

• Fighting and/or aggressive behavior towards another person
• Possession of a dangerous weapon
• Disrespect to teachers or school personnel
• Inappropriate language (profanity or obscenity) or gestures
• Destruction or vandalism of property

  • All students need parental support to succeed. The Educational Surrogate Parents Program responds to the need for support and representation of students with disabilities whose parents are not available. This program relies on the commitment of volunteers who support a student's education by advocating for him/her to ensure that the student receives a free and appropriate public education. 

Study trips serve as an important "being there" experience for students and are a vital part of the curriculum.

We must have parental permission to transport students off school property. Study trip permission slips will be sent home at the beginning of the school year to be filled out by parents/guardians.

Any adult wishing to attend field trips must complete a volunteer application and security check from at least five school days prior. Forms are available at the school office.

Since 1928, Eliot has been proud to have an active PTA charter. From school-wide fundraisers such as our annual Jog-a-thon to individual home-room volunteers, PTA volunteers partner with school staff to provide wonderful support to our Eliot Students. Please mark all clothing, school supplies, lunch boxes, etc. with your child's name. The lost and found cabinet is located in the cafeteria. All unclaimed items are donated monthly to charity.

Parents must sign an authorization form yearly in the health clinic for any medication to be administered at school. Prescription medication will be given to a student only if the medicine is contained in a prescription vial with a label affixed with the name and address of the pharmacy or origin, date, name of patient, doctor's name, and directions for administration, and prescription number.

Part I. General Expectations Eliot Elementary agrees to implement the following statutory requirements: 

Purpose: Tulsa Public Schools shall promote parent involvement in all schools as mandated by Title I, No Child Left Behind Act 2001 and work as equal partners with parents in providing quality learning experiences for every student, every day, without exception. Our mission is to inspire and prepare every student to love learning, achieve ambitious goals, and make positive contributions to our world.

The Board believes and acknowledges that parent involvement raises the academic achievement level of students. Additionally, parents become empowered, teacher morale improves and communities grow stronger when parents take an active role in educating their children. To this end, schools shall involve parents in the education of their children at all grade levels. The Superintendent or his/her designee shall provide coordination, technical assistance and other support necessary to assist all schools in planning and implementing effective parent involvement activities to improve student academic achievement and school performance. Team Tulsa is "all in" to ensure that every student has access to exceptional learning experiences.  In January 2016, Tulsa Public Schools adopted our 2015-2020 strategic plan, Destination Excellence, which describes a vision for teaching and learning in Tulsa. Destination Excellence calls for educators, students, families, and community, and district support teams to be learners, contributors, and designers.  Eliot Elementary School teachers and staff believe that empowering parents to insist on improvement and giving them options regarding their children’s education will help the district to realize its vision to become the “District of Choice” for patrons of the community. As a result of this belief, Eliot Elementary School shall create an environment of supportive and collaborative parent involvement. 

1. Program Information for Parents: Eliot Elementary School shall provide the families of targeted students with the information necessary to understand such topics as the Oklahoma Academic Standards, the assessments being used, the requirements of Title 1, Part A, and how to monitor their children’s progress and work with educators to improve their achievement. The school will provide parents with information to increase their child’s ability to succeed at school and with the Spanish language acquisition. 

2. Educate Educators: Eliot Elementary School shall educate staff members in how to address student academic concerns to parents and how to reach all learners in class. Yearly professional development is provided and required for staff to participate. 

3. Understandable Communication: Eliot Elementary School shall ensure that information related to school and parent programs, meetings and other activities is sent to the parents of all children in a format and language the parents can understand. English/Spanish school messages- as needed; Emails- as needed and in the parent’s preferred language. 4. Parents and Volunteering: Eliot Elementary School works alongside the Parent Teacher Association to continually solicit and encourage all parents to support their children and school by volunteering to participate in various acts of service as needed and defined by the staff. The school provides parents multiple opportunities to participate in classroom and school-wide activities. These will include but are not limited to several learning and social projects.

Conferences are designed to promote maximum understanding and cooperation between home and school for the benefit of the child. Conferences are scheduled with every parent during the fall conference time. Spring conferences will be scheduled with the parents as needed.

Progress Reports:

You may check PowerSchool for current grades and attendance at any time. A letter with web address, username, and password will be sent home with your child at the beginning of the school year.

Report Cards:

Report cards will be available 7-10 days following the end of each quarter on PowerSchool; please use your access information to view/print. Children must be enrolled a minimum of 15 days to receive a grade.
